WA and Arab Fund Forum

On 21 November 2006, Welfare Association in cooperation with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development organized a forum to discuss the preservation of the religious sites and the revitalization program of the Old City of Jerusalem.

The forum aimed at raising public awareness of the dangers threatening Jerusalem and its inhabitants, and to present the efforts of the Arab Fund in supporting development projects in Palestine aimed at preserving its culture and heritage especially in Jerusalem. Welfare Association made a presentation about the difficult economic and social situation in the Old City of Jerusalem and the efforts being implemented through the revitalization of the Old City project.

The forum which was attended by prominent Kuwaiti and Palestinian persons started with a speech by Mr. Abed Al Muhsen Al Qattan in which he highlighted the achievement of the Welfare Association. Later Mr. Adnan Huseini, spoke of the harsh conditions under which the residents of Jerusalem live under the Israeli occupation.

Another forum was organized by the Kuwaiti Alumni Club to discuss the Old City of Jerusalem revitalization program. Dr. Shadia Touqan, technical Director of the project, briefed the audience about three case studies in the Old City aiming at preserving the Palestinian heritage in Jerusalem.
