Taawon concluded its periodical meetings of the Board of Directors (BOD) and institutional committees. The meetings were conducted for three days in Beirut, Lebanon, in the presence of Mr. Faisal Alami, Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BOT), Mr. Luai Khoury, Chairman of the BOD, and Dr. Tafeeda Jarbawi, Taawon’s Director General.
The meetings featured the committees for community development, education, reconstruction, culture, programs and projects, the Palestinian Museum, compliance, media, and resource development. At the end of the first day, a music concert was given by the Palestinian singer, Omar Kamal, in support of the education projects in Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon.
During the meetings, financial and managerial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) were presented and discussed, in addition to work progress reports up to the end of August 2017. Revenues of major programs for 2017 reached 33.6 million USD, which is 120% of the planned revenues up until the end of August, while program expenditure reached 27.9 million USD, 107% of the planned expenditure until the end of August (25.9 million USD). This is in the organization’s operational areas in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, the Gaza Strip, the 1948 areas, and Lebanon.
Director General Dr. Tafeeda Jarbawi presented Taawon’s major managerial achievements, especially those relevant to program-based management, the automated resources management system, the development of the crisis management record and the automated internal operations. Dr. Jarbawi also presented the principal achievements of the education, culture, orphan care, community development, youth empowerment, and old cities revitalization programs, as well as the Palestinian Museum, media and research. A number of studies were also presented, such as those about beneficiary and partner satisfaction, the results of the Taawon Awards evaluation and its impact, and evaluation of the previous 2014–2016 strategic plan, to come up with recommendations and learned lessons for improving work mechanisms. This is in addition to some presentations of media materials such as films and reports, improving Taawon’s media work and reaching out to millions of people, demonstrating its efforts and activities and contributing to enhancing its identity.
Dr. Jarbawi also presented some achievement-marking figures regarding the number of beneficiaries of Taawon’s programs over 2017: the programs have reached around one million people, 40% of them women, while the number of benefiting institutions has reached 400. Around 2,000 job opportunities have also been created.
Within the framework of its development policy, Taawon conducted specific meetings to discuss a new social investment fund, the necessity of adopting Agile Management for increasing performance effectiveness, and introducing Disruptive Technologies to streamline operations.
A visit to Burj Albarajneh Refugee Camp was arranged, where members participated in a cultural activity, visited a health center, a center for the elderly and two kindergartens.
