Palestinians displaced from Syria to Lebanon: Ahd’s Journey

Ahd is a five-year-old Palestinian refugee who was living with her family in the Yarmouk Refugee Camp in Syria, until the violence consuming the country forced them to flee to Lebanon.  Relocated to a school that was turned into a shelter for refugees, Ahd was registered in Ein El Helwa Nursery, which offers a comprehensive educational program that we tailored for Palestinian children who fled from Syria.

Although she was in a safe learning environment, Ahd’s teachers noticed that she was so hyperactive that she was having problems controlling her energy, interacting with other kids and focusing on her lessons. Following up with her at home, Ahd’s teacher discovered that the whole family shared just one single room. No wonder Ahd was hyperactive in class, she had no space to play and release her energy. To contribute to addressing the problem, Ahd’s teachers gave her extra time to play, draw, and have fun. The transformation was immediate, and Ahd made significant progress, both socially and academically. Ahd now actively participates in class, scores higher grades and has developed new friendships at school.
