Welfare Association sister organization WA-UK provided funds for a US$ 24,689 project to upgrade two playgrounds for Palestinian youth in the city of Salfeet and in the town of Kharas. WA is committed to restoring open space facilities throughout the Palestinian community for its importance in developing bodies and minds. The playgrounds will be developed to best meet the recreational needs of Palestinian youth.

Kharas is a Palestinian town 25 km North West of the city of Hebron with a population of 8000 persons. Kharas has 5 schools and a number of civil society organizations including an active youth sports club. The municipality has allocated and leveled a piece of land to be used as a playground; its reconstruction will include excavation, and building a concrete surrounding wall.

Salfeet is a Palestinian city in the northern part of the West Bank, and is surrounded by 19 villages and towns with a total population of 70,000 persons and 26 active youth sports club. Salfeet has a well-established football playground that is used by all sport teams and youth in the Governorate. Due to the great demand on the use of the playground, particularly in summer, there is a need to install lighting system in the playground so that it can be used during evenings. With these additions and improvements, Salfeet playground will keep up its reputation as one of the best local places for football.
