In the aftermath of the disaster in Um Nasr village in the northern Gaza Strip due to the sudden collapse of an earth embankment around a sewage reservoir, Welfare Association immediately responded by providing 600 hot meals to 300 devastated families. The meals were distributed with the help of 40 volunteers from several NGO’s and in coordination with Jabalia Rahabilitaion Society.

Welfare Association works on assessing the needs for future interventions through surveying the damage, meeting with residents of the village and representatives of several NGO’s, and through participating in the meetings of the emergency committee set for this purpose.

The disaster that took place on Tuesday 27 March, spewing a river of waste and mud, killed 4 people including 3 children and submerged more than 250 houses which constitute 70% of all the houses in the village. Health professionals are seriously concerned about the long term affects of this hazardous environment caused by the worst catastrophe in Gaza Strip.
