With a generous support from various sources including the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and various individual philanthropists, the Welfare Association finished lately the restoration of 13 residential buildings with 100 inhabitants in the old city of Jerusalem. In addition, and with funding from the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development and revenues from the Gala Dinner held in Dubai late last year, the Welfare Association signed agreements to restore another 20 buildings with an estimated cost of around one million US dollars and providing shelter to more than 150 inhabitant.

It is worth noting that the restoration is implemented under the supervision of Welfare Association’s Old City of Jerusalem Rehabilitation Project (OCJRP) established in 1995 with the aim of restoring Arab historic sites and residential buildings in Jerusalem old city, and the winner of the prestigious Agha Khan Award for Engineering. These efforts come as a continuation of Welfare Association’s efforts aimed at enhancing the steadfastness of Jerusalemites and protecting their properties and identity and means of living, at a time when the Israeli government announced a 1.5 billion US dollars allocation to a campaign aimed at strengthening its grip over the Holy City, further judaizing and isolating it from the rest of the Palestinian Territories.
