WA allocates $285,000 to The Civil Society of Nablus

On 22 April 2007, Welfare Association and The Civil Society of Nablus Governorate signed a grant agreement through which WA will grant the Society the amount of $285,000. The grant will be used to rehabilitate the infrastructure and properties damaged by frequent Israeli incursions.

Welfare Association launched its appeal “Urgent Relief Needed for Nablus City Caught Under Israeli Military Siege” on 28 February to bring relief to our devastated families in this great city. The city of Nablus has been targeted and a tight curfew has been imposed on its 105,000 residents during the most intensive Israeli military campaign in the city since the 2002 reinvasion of West Bank cities. Israeli armed forces conducted house-to-house arrest raids, which have been especially intensive in the historic old city of Nablus. Several houses were reported to be demolished in the ongoing campaign in addition to the destruction of the infrastructure.

The generous response from 11 donors produced a total of $285,000. Every dollar contributed to the campaign is instrumental to its success. However, in the wake of the many events that have challenged the nation's stability and economic security this past year, WA is grateful for the commitment of its friends and supporters. The support they have shown will go a long way in helping WA foster excellence in the community and carry on WA mission to make a distinguished contribution toward furthering the progress of the Palestinians, preserving their heritage and identity, supporting their living culture and building civil society.
