In May 2017, Taawon Lebanon inaugurated the renovated CBRA Centre in Nahr El Bared camp, located in northern Lebanon. More than 350 children with special needs are provided with treatment in the centre and with follow up visits in their homes and schools.

An official opening was held in the presence of Lebanese officials and representatives of Palestinian and international institutions. Speaking on behalf of Taawon Lebanon, Saswan Masri, the country director, emphasized Taawon’s commitment to support community-based rehabilitation, with the major impact it has on children with special needs and in helping them to integrate in society and be more independent. 

Community-Based Rehabilitation (CBR) is an innovative and sustainable approach to supporting and empowering Palestinian refugees living with disabilities. It is implemented in cooperation with families, community partners, and local service providers. CBR is a holistic, multi-stakeholder approach to disability that not only provides rehabilitative services but also builds the capacities of people with disabilities (PwD) and their caregivers, while also strengthening community support for greater social inclusion of PwD. It focuses on strengthening PwD’s ability to conduct activities of daily life, while also training caregivers to continue to build PwD’s abilities on an ongoing basis.
