Bisan Salim, 10 years old, is a beautiful girl from Gaza. She had hearing problems in both ears. Her mother said, “It was a shock for us when we realized our daughter’s problem. We discovered that three years after Bisan’s birth. She couldn’t speak at all.”
Being member of a big family, five members, in Burj Al Barajne, with her father as the only source of income, in 2010, Rana took the SAT out of her own initiative, studying for it, and passing with scores enabling her to get accepted into AUB.
This project aimed to improve the living conditions of the most marginalised families and their children in Jal El Baher gathering in south Lebanon through small grants.
The idea of the project is based on meeting the needs of those children and families who are undergoing difficult conditions. The preschool of Emelson Women Society works with 140 children aged between newly-born to six years.
Through the Welfare Association’s support of the Amari Camp Women’s project’s training on sewing and embroidery, more than 40 women’s incomes have improved. The women can now work from home and generate an average of 150-200 USD a month.
